Advice to Learners

by cernockyd

A while ago, I received an email asking for advice for students. I believe the points below are most compatible with self-determined learning. Anyway these are the most sincere points of advice I can give. They probably mean more for me than for you, but maybe you will appreciate them.

  1. Truth is where there are no incentives.
  2. Your subjectivity is more interesting than it may seem and is probably non-transferable.
  3. Be aware of when, why and where you seek confirmation with respect to the points 1-2.
  4. Your limits are what enables your being. There is no point in being conscious if you can encompass everything (paradoxically).
  5. There is no education other than self-education.
  6. Learning can take different forms.
  7. Learning might have more to do with filtering out the unimportant.
  8. Paradoxes are something you can get rid of or embrace.
